Word of the Lord – Elul
BE THE VOICE
To Speak Up, Speak Out and To Represent
To Speak Up
God wants us to speak up for the poor, the afflicted, the downtrodden, the lowly, the orphan, the widow, the foreigner, the mute, the disabled, those who do not have a voice, those who lack influence, and those who do not have means.
Proverbs 31:8-9 “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
The Courage to Speak Out: A Yielded Heart in a Hostile World
The scriptures are filled with examples of God’s people confronting power, but a closer look reveals their courage was not their own; it was fueled by a higher allegiance and a willingness to accept any consequence. Their faithfulness was born from a heart fully submitted to God. Their question wasn’t “Will I be safe?” but “Will I be faithful?”
What It Takes to Be a Voice That Represents God
1) Hear His Words
Before we can represent God, we must first actively and intentionally listen to Him. This is more than just hearing with our ears—it is listening with a heart that is open, attentive, and ready to obey.
• Luke 8:18 (AMP): “So be careful how you listen; for whoever has [a teachable heart], to him more [understanding] will be given; and whoever does not have [a longing for truth], even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
2) Believe His Words
Hearing alone is not enough. True representation requires faith; accepting God’s words as true, reliable, and authoritative. Believing means trusting His character and promises above our circumstances and feelings.
• Hebrews 4:2 (ESV): “For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened.”
3) Declare His Words
Once we have heard and believed, we are called to speak His truth boldly. This is the act of representation; bringing the power of God into our world through proclamation.
• Matthew 10:27 (ESV): “What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.”
• Isaiah 55:11: “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
This process is how faith is born in us and spreads to others. We cannot skip a step: we cannot declare what we do not believe, and we cannot believe what we have not heard.
• Romans 10:17 (ESV): “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” The Word of God cannot affect this world without passing through your mouth. And it cannot impact lives when spoken without belief
